There's no way to tell if the comp is weak for first place or not because you have no idea how many rounds took place. It's definitely a weak comp in the long run, but a strong Tirion tends to do a lot of damage and kill opponents fast since it usually has bolvars, boogeymonsters and/or barons surviving the battle.

Regardless, faced with so much loss and so much unrelenting power, it's really no wonder Tirion couldn't protect himself, or rather that the Light couldn't protect him. If it had, it really would have been deux ex machina. On that note, I don't see Tirion's win over Arthas as deux ex machina.
